Sermon on the Mount Resources

Quicklink - SotM

The Sermon on the Mount contains some of the most well-known, loved, and even challenging sections of the entire Bible. As we continue to walk through these chapters, here are some resources we recommend if you’d like to do further study:

The Sermon on the Mount: Kingdom Life in a Fallen World by Sinclair Ferguson (171 pages). Ferguson walks through all of the Sermon on the Mount, but his book reads more like a series of devotionals on these chapters than a commentary. It is highly accessible and filled with application.

The Message of the Sermon on the Mount by John Stott (222 pages). Stott is known for commentaries that are deep, accessible, and moving to read, and his commentary on Matthew 5-7 is no exception. Readers who spend time with this work will not only grow immensely in their understanding of these chapters, but will find themselves worshipping the Lord alongside Stott. There are also several discussion questions at the end perfectly suited for small-group discussion or personal devotions.

The Sermon on the Mount by Jen Wilkin (144 pages). Jen Wilkin is known for writing engaging study guides through Scripture. This nine-week study is ideal for small groups walking through the Sermon on the Mount.

Additionally, if you would like to study Matthew’s gospel as a whole, we would recommend The Message of Matthew by Michael Green and Exalting Jesus in Matthew by David Platt.
