Have you ever seen someone walk down a red carpet? It is a symbol of royalty or honor. What did the people do as Jesus came into Jerusalem to show Him honor?

In this passage, the people were praising Jesus by shouting and singing. Why were people so excited to see Jesus?
Explain that the people had seen Jesus perform miracle after miracle and they believed nothing could stop Him from going into Jerusalem and becoming their King, overthrowing the oppressive authority of Rome.

But the people didn’t fully understand that Jesus was King of a different kind of Kingdom, the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus came to set the people free from their eternal burden of sin, not simply the temporary burden of earthly rulers.

Why did the Pharisees tell Jesus to *rebuke His disciples (*tell them they shouldn’t do something)?
The Pharisees did not believe Jesus was the Son of God. They believed what the people were saying about Him was blasphemy and they didn’t want anyone saying it. They were so caught up in their religious practices they missed seeing Jesus for who He really was.

Why did Jesus say, “I tell you, if they were silent, the very stones would cry out?”
Jesus is pointing out their unbelief while also admitting He is the Son of God, acknowledged even by creation. Christ WILL be praised! All creation, from the tiniest molecule to the furthest expanse of the galaxy, was designed to praise Christ.

How can you praise Jesus Christ as Lord?

Pray

Dear God, As we celebrate Palm Sunday, help us to remember that day when all the adults and children waved palm branches and cheered as Jesus entered Jerusalem as their King. Help us to remember that Jesus is our wonderful King and that we can praise him everyday! Amen
