What does this passage teach us about God?
This question is a little harder to answer here since it is a short passage, but think about what God is doing even when it doesn’t say. For example, in what we read we can observe that God allowed Joash to become king at 7 years old! We also read that God provided Joash with a wise man, Jehoiada the priest, to guide him as he ruled.

What does this passage teach us about man?
Joash became king at a very young age. Talk to your kids about that. Ask them if they would be ready to rule a country at 7? Point out that Joash did what was right in the Lord’s sight (that means he put God first and was obedient to Him) while Jehoiada was the priest. God used Jehoiada to help Joash be a good king.

How should we respond?
Think about how important it is for us to learn from the wise people God places in our lives. Just as Joash listened to the wise guidance of Jehoiada the priest, we too should listen to the wise guidance from the people in our life who love God.

Pray

God, help us not to trust in our own ability to change our hearts, but to trust in what Jesus has done to change our hearts. Help us to know the eternal forgiveness and joy that comes from knowing Jesus as Lord.
