Read

Here are some verses for your family to read about the tower of Babel:

Genesis 11 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. 2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”

Discuss

Ask younger kids specific questions about the story or to retell the story. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:

What had God commanded people to do in Genesis 9:1?

Did the people obey God’s command?

What did they do instead?

Were the people concerned about making God’s greatness known or bringing attention to themselves?

Pray

Lead your family in a time of prayer over what you read.

Consider the ACTS model (Adoration- Adore or praise God, Confession- Confess sin, Thanksgiving- Thank God, and Supplication- Ask God to supply your needs)

Today we will focus on A-Adore: God, you are a wise and gracious King, knowing what is best for your creation. You say in the Bible, “Your thoughts are not like my thoughts. Your ways are not like my ways.” Your way is far greater than mine. We trust you and desire to follow Your ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
