What does this teach us about God?
After reading the warnings about God’s judgment against sin in yesterday’s passage, this sounds very different! It shows God’s mercy and grace that He extends to all people who have faith in His Son Jesus Christ. God is going to change the hearts of the people and purify them. He will take away their fears. God is a mighty one who saves His people!
What does this teach us about man?
All have sinned against a holy God and deserve judgment for their sin. We need to be rescued. The only hope we have is God’s grace! God is the only one who can change our sinful hearts and make them pure. We can find peace in God!
How should we respond?
When we read about God, it should put us in awe and deepen our thankfulness for the grace He has given us through Jesus! Help them to see that we are sinful and deserve punishment, just as Zephaniah warned. But when we put our faith in Jesus, we receive salvation and forgiveness of our sins, which causes us to worship God!
Pray
Spend time in prayer. God, you are slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and mercy! Thank you for your patience with us and for making a way for us to escape our sin so that we can be free to love and obey you. Thank you for giving us peace through Jesus! We praise you! Amen
